Kale, Pineapple & Banana “Tropical” Protein Smoothie

I bought a juicer recently, but to be honest, I was quite disappointed by all the wasted veggies & fruit pulp it made (especially if you juice kale since what liquid does kale make anyway!).

As a result I started googling “kale smoothies” in hopes to find a way to salvage the wasted kale and after some trial and error I found an amazing recipe on Butter and Sugar for a tropical kale smoothie.  I took this recipe, made a few alterations (like adding in protein powder) and the result… success!

Pineapple-Banana Kale Protein Smoothie

Ingredients
  • 2 bananas (frozen if possible)
  • 1 cup kale, stem removed (I like the Trader Joe's in a bag)
  • 1 cup almond or coconut milk (coconut tastes better)
  • 1 tbsp organic extra virgin coconut oil (for texture)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple
  • ½ tsp vanilla bean extract
  • 6 ice cubes
  • 1 scoop Sun Warrior Protein Powder (Vanilla)
Instructions
  1. Place all items in blender & blend until smooth!

 

Paleo Chocolate “Elvis” Protein Smoothie

Elvis Presley made the grilled sandwich with peanut butter, sliced banana and bacon famous.

“The Elvis” is not paleo approved; however, I do love the flavor of peanut butter & banana, so here is my version of “the Elvis” in a paleo-ish approved smoothie.  I don’t know if you can call this breakfast, but it sure helped curb my cravings for a milkshake!

Ingredients
  • 1 sliced banana, frozen {if not frozen, add in 4 ice cubes}
  • 2 tbs almond butter
  • 1 cup unsweetened non-canned coconut milk (or almond milk)
  • 1 tsp raw honey
  • 1 scoop Sun Warrior Warrior Blend Raw Plant-Based Complete Protein Powder {chocolate or vanilla}
  • 1 tbs dark chocolate chips {optional}
  • 1 slice of bacon, crumbled {optional}
Instructions
  1. Place all items in blender (in the order listed above) or rocket blender
  2. Blend until smooth & enjoy!

 

Please Note

In this recipe I used Trader Joe’s new unsweetened coconut milk, which tastes a lot different than normal canned coconut milk. It’s less dense, less creamy and it doesn’t have a strong coconut flavor. I don’t suggest using canned coconut milk in this recipe if that’s all you have. Use almond milk instead.

The original Elvis does not use any chocolate, so if you don’t want to “cheat” with some dark chocolate chunks (I get the 70% cacao ones from Whole Foods) or chocolate protein powder, then feel free to omit.  You can use vanilla protein powder too.

Lastly, bacon is optional (but it makes it a true Elvis with it!).

{breakfast loves} Strawberry Banana Protein Smoothie

Breakfast is my FAVORITE meal of the day (If you don’t believe me check out my other blog). When I started the Paleo Diet I was afraid that I would have to eat eggs & bacon everyday since all my favorites… cereal, oatmeal, yogurt with berries, cottage cheese, pancakes, french toast, etc.. were definitely not paleo! But I was wrong.  Instead I’ve been discovering new ways to prepare amazing breakfasts.

So, I thought I’d start a series of recipes called {breakfast loves} to inspire people who are on the Paleo Diet, but LOVE breakfast! Since I failed last week on my attempt at making pumpkin pancakes (they tasted great, but fell apart), I thought I’d start my breakfast series with something simple and quick.

During the weekdays I don’t have time to make a large breakfast, so this is a great protein and vitamin rich recipe to help jump start your morning! I use Sun Warrior Warrior Blend Raw Plant-Based Complete Protein Powder (Vanilla) because it’s paleo approved and tastes good!  Also, if you have a Bella Cucina Rocket Blender, it makes making these SO quick and easy (not to mention the cup becomes your drinking glass & to-go cup!).

Strawberry Banana Protein Smoothie

A quick & easy on-the-go breakfast remedy filled with protein & vitamins

Ingredients
  • ½ cup non-frozen bananas chopped (~ ½ a banana)
  • ½ cup frozen organic strawberries (~ 4-5 large strawberries)
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop Sun Warrior plant-based protein powder (vanilla)
Instructions
  1. Put in the bananas
  2. Then pile on the strawberries
  3. Pour in the almond milk (if there is a fill line do not exceed)
  4. Dump in the protein powder
  5. Shake the cup (so the protein powder & milk can mix)
  6. Blend (liquify)
  7. Enjoy!
Notes
Always put the most frozen items closest to the blade, so if you are using a Bella or Magic Bullet, put the frozen strawberries on the top. If using a blender then put in first. The protein powder tends to stick to the sides so put it in after the almond milk and shake the cup before blending.
